Festival of  Music & Dancing during Willie Clancy  week at Armada Hotel 2016
The Armada in Spanish Point has announced details of its annual Festival of Music & Dancing during Willie Clancy Week from 1st-10th July, 2016. The 10-day programme of set dancing sessions and country music dancing coincides with Willie Clancy Week in nearby Miltown Malbay, the hometown of the late Piper Willie Clancy. Michael English, The Abbey Ceili Band and Trudi Lalor are among the acts lined up to take part in the 33rd annual event. The 10-day event is complemented by social dancing in the ocean marquee on the grounds of the Armada Hotel along with fireside sessions in Johnny Burke's Pub, late night music in the Ocean Bar, a Festival Club and an extensive range of dining and drink options. Organisers are expecting attendance figures at this year's Festival to exceed the estimated 6,000 people who took part in the 2015 event. ;Keeping It Country; at the Ocean Marquee features six nights of dancing from 9.30pm, with performances from resident duo PJ Murrihy and Band (nightly, 4-9 July) with special guests Michael English (5 July), Trudi Lalor (6 July), John Hogan (8 July), Bernie Heaney (9 July). The ever popular Patirck Roche band wil take to the stage on Thursday 7th July for what promises to be a lively gig  There will be Jive and Quickstep workshops in the Marquee from 11.30am to 1.30pm each day.  'Armada Set Dancing Week' features daily afternoon (3-6pm) and night-time ceilithe (9.30pm-1.00am). The festival kicks off with a night of social dancing on Friday 1st July with Pj Murrihy and Band in the Ocean Bar. The afternoon/night-time ceili events include Brian Boru and The Five Counties Ceilie Band (2nd July) Johnny Reidy and the Abbey (3rd July), Rise the Dust and Striolan (4th July), The Abbey and Swallows Tail (5th July), Deenagh and the Five Counties (6th July), Salamance and the Abbey (7th July), Striolan and Johnny Reidy Ceili Band (8th July), Swallows Tail and Five Counties Ceili Band (9th July) The festival concludes on Sunday 10th July with a farewell céilí featuring the Johnny Reidy Céilí Band.
