Who is Mabel? Mabel Barclay Ellis, was the last lady of the house. Born in Dublin in 1872, she fell in love with, and married, the charming Robert Goold Erskine Ellis and made Sea View House, as this place was once known, her home. Her husband's family descended from the Moroney's, who built this house C. 1807. We imagine the home Armada House must have made for them as they began their lives here and welcomed their children. After the War of Independence and the rapid changes in Irish politics and society, we can imagine the conversations held in this room about the decision to sell this special place to the Sisters of Mercy, a decision that saw the last of the landed gentry to reside here, and the last Lady of the House to make it a home, we imagine that last breakfast, that final farewell, that last glance as she drove away. Now 100 years later, she has our most beautiful space adorned with her name.
